The Necktie: Power, Performance, or a Leash?

Let me ask you something real:

You walk into a meeting.
Two guys are pitching you.
Both are in suits
but one wears a tie, the other doesn’t.

Who do you trust more?

Me? I trust the one without the tie.

Why?
Because 9 out of 10 times, that’s the owner, the closer, or the guy who knows what the f*ck he’s talking about.

The other guy?
Usually the rookie.
Still rehearsing the script.
Still performing for approval.

The tie is fascinating, not just as fashion, but as psychology.
We don’t talk about it, but we feel it.

A man who drops the tie isn’t hiding behind tradition or power symbols.
He’s betting on his voice.
He’s betting on clarity, not costume.

Because when you remove the tie, you’re also removing:

  • the illusion of rank
  • the fake safety of appearance
  • the ego that says “I need to look like someone who knows”

But don’t get it twisted, freedom isn’t laziness.

To drop the tie and still command a room,
you need excellence.
You need presence.
You need to embody the authority, not wear it.

That kind of freedom has a cost. And that cost is competence.

Now let’s go deeper.

The tie sits at the throat, your voice, your truth, your identity.

And every morning, millions of men tighten that fabric around their voice box.
Subconsciously saying:

“Here. I’ll behave. I’ll comply. I’ll say what’s safe.”

That’s not professionalism.
That’s submission.

Yes, some men just like wearing ties.
Cool. I do too if I am going to a high-end cocktail party, a marriage (or a funeral)
But I’m not talking about fashion here
I’m talking about symbols.

Because in truth, the tie has always carried double meaning:

  1. A mark of discipline and intentional presence
  2. A leash disguised as status

It all depends on who’s wearing it and why.

In ancient terms, it’s like choosing between the monk’s robes and the warrior’s armor.

One man is dressed for compliance.
The other, for clarity.

And me?

I’d rather walk into a room with no tie, full truth, and fire in my chest than play dress-up with people who need a collar to feel powerful.

Because when your voice is forged by life
you don’t need a knot at your throat to feel like a man.

Real confidence doesn’t wear rules.
It wears results.
