What If Reality Is More Flexible Than You Think?
Let’s talk a little bit about the Reticular Activating System…
What if everything you’ve been taught about life, success, relationships, and even yourself was not an absolute truth, but just a program running in your mind?
What if your reality isn’t fixed, but instead, shaped by your beliefs, filtered through the lens of your subconscious programming?
This isn’t just philosophy. It’s neuroscience.
At the heart of this truth is the Reticular Activating System (RAS), the gatekeeper of perception, the filter of reality, the key to why you see what you see and experience what you experience.
Let’s break it down.
What is the Reticular Activating System (RAS)?
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a network of neurons in your brainstem that acts as a filter for all incoming sensory information.
Every second, your brain is bombarded with millions of bits of data, sounds, sights, conversations, sensations, thoughts. If you consciously processed all of it, you’d go insane.
So your RAS decides what gets through.
How does it decide?
It lets in what you believe is important.
If you’ve ever bought a new car and suddenly started seeing that same model everywhere, or if you learn a new word and suddenly hear it all the time, that’s your RAS at work.
It wasn’t that those things didn’t exist before. It’s that your brain wasn’t filtering them in.
Here’s where it gets powerful:
Your beliefs act as the programming for your RAS.
Whatever you believe, about yourself, about life, about success, about relationships, your RAS filters reality to confirm it.
Belief: The Architect of Your Reality
Whatever you believe, your brain will show you evidence of it everywhere.
🔹 If you believe you’re not smart enough, your brain will highlight every mistake you make and ignore your wins.
🔹 If you believe “money doesn’t grow on trees,” your brain will block out opportunities and only reinforce struggle.
🔹 If you believe you’re not worthy of love, you’ll unconsciously attract people who mistreat you.
The scary part?
You don’t see what you don’t believe.
It’s not that abundance, love, and success aren’t real, it’s that your mind isn’t programmed to recognize them.
And that’s the trap.
Most people don’t live in reality.
They live in the version of reality their beliefs allow them to see.
But if your beliefs shape your reality…
Then reality is highly negotiable.
Reality is a Game. And You’re Holding the Pen
What if the entire framework of life was not set in stone, but instead a game we’re all playing unconsciously?
Most people live life on autopilot, following the beliefs they inherited from:
✔ Society
✔ Culture
✔ Parents
✔ School
✔ Childhood experiences
They don’t question the rules.
They don’t realize the rules are written in sand, not stone.
If you’re stuck in a toxic relationship, isn’t that because you believe you don’t deserve better?
If you feel financially trapped, isn’t that because you believe wealth is hard to attain?
What if every struggle you have isn’t “just life”, but a reflection of your beliefs?
Beliefs Keep Our Problems Alive
What keeps a bad relationship alive?
The belief that this is all you can have.
What keeps financial struggle alive?
The belief that making money is hard.
What keeps self-doubt alive?
The belief that you’re not enough.
We’re not stuck in these cycles because reality is rigid.
We’re stuck because we don’t change the beliefs that create them.
And here’s the biggest realization:
Reality reflects who we believe we are more than who we truly are.
Everything is Mostly Empty Space, Belief Makes It Solid
Science tells us that everything is made of atoms.
And what are atoms mostly made of?
99.9999% empty space.
Matter is mostly an illusion.
The only thing that makes it feel solid, real, undeniable, is perception.
And perception is built on belief.
Which means…
Your reality is not set. It is not fixed. It is belief in motion.
This is the first step to rewriting your story.
How to Reprogram Your RAS and Change Your Reality
If you want to experience a different reality, you don’t need to change the world.
You need to change what you see.
And to change what you see, you must change what you believe.
Here’s how:
1. Identify the Beliefs Running Your Life
Ask yourself:
🔹 What do I believe about myself?
🔹 What do I believe about money?
🔹 What do I believe about love?
🔹 What do I believe about success?
Then ask:
👉 Are these beliefs serving me, or limiting me?
If they’re limiting you, they must go.
2. Flood Your Mind with a New Reality
Your brain learns through repetition.
If you’ve spent 20+ years believing a false story, it won’t change overnight.
To reprogram your RAS, you must consistently expose yourself to new beliefs:
✅ Read books that support the mindset you want.
✅ Follow people who have the results you desire.
✅ Surround yourself with those who challenge your old thinking.
The more you feed your mind a new narrative, the more your RAS will start filtering reality to match it.
3. Act As If
Want to shift your reality faster?
Act as if you already believe the new reality.
🔹 If you want to be confident, act as if you already are.
🔹 If you want to be successful, act as if you already own it.
🔹 If you want wealth, start making choices like someone who is financially empowered.
Your mind will eventually catch up with your actions.
The Truth: You Are Not a Prisoner of Reality. You Are Its Architect.
Most people go through life thinking they’re stuck.
They think success is for other people.
They think love is for the lucky.
They think reality is rigid and unchangeable.
But you now know the truth:
Reality is highly negotiable.
The rules are written in sand, not stone.
You are not a victim of your past beliefs—you are their master.
The moment you change the way you see yourself, the world shifts to match it.

I really appreciate how you explain the RAS as more than just a scientific concept, but something that actually impacts our everyday lives. It’s crazy to think that by shifting our beliefs, we can literally change the way we experience the world around us.
